elodie the elephant

July 11, 2012
This softie was a gift to Bailey on her birthday.  Unfortunately, Elodie the Elephant hatched out of the wrapping paper to hear “no like it” as B promptly handed Elodie over to me.  Apparently she is now “Mommy’s”.   Which is okay, because I love Elodie!!  She is adorable, pigeon-toed with massive ears and a shy face.

The pattern is from 101 Great Ways to Sew a Metre and was fairly simple to make.  The fabric is leftover from one of my favorite vintage sheets on ebay, with soft grey velvet for the under ears.

I hope Bailey one day learns to love Elodie, but for now the sweet softie can receive cuddles from me.

beach hut

June 11, 2012

I love Aneela Hoey’s blog (it’s what first inspired me to quilt!).  Last year she went to Whitstable and fell in love with it (who doesn’t!?) and started to make little beach huts like the ones seen in Whitstable and Tankerton.
As I am at home working and watching endless of software training youtube videos (fun fun!) I needed something mindless to do with my hands.  So I dipped into my scrap bin and whipped up a little beach hut for Bailey’s shelves.  I can see many more of these in the future.  So simple and a great scrap-buster!

These two little guys are happy on the shelves. I can’t wait to populate Bailey’s shelves with more fun homemade treasures.

easter bunny

March 6, 2012

I am very excited about Easter this year. I think B is at an age she can really enjoy egg decorating, a hunt and lots and lots of bunnies!

So I made an alternative Easter bunny which I love, but Simon thinks it’s headless and strange. I loved the example on this site and decided to make my own version.

The bunny is made from pieces of my Grandma’s cardigan (I accidentally shrunk it in the wash so I was determined to make use of it somehow). Because Grandma loved owls and collected them her whole life, I’ve placed an owl label on the bunny, marking it was made with her materials.

The little felt heart is so sweet outlined in yellow and surrounded by circles. Simon might think it’s odd, but I love this little bunny!

dinosaur bunting

July 4, 2011

I made this bunting when Bailey was only about four months old but she didn’t have a room to hang it in. Since moving, she has a bedroom and therefore these colorful dinos have a home.

This is a variation on my playful dinosaurs I made before Bailey was even born. I investigated selling them but learned there are strict regulations when selling baby toys. An interested shop owner encouraged me to make them into bunting. I LOVE bunting so I was thrilled with the suggestion but felt the dinos needed to be a bit flatter and also cheaper to make if I was going to sell them. So they became two sided, not three sided.

These are girlie dinos and they are very friendly!

I have simplified and perfected my giraffe and my dinosaur pattern now to create these little guys easily and quickly now.

Saskia the dinosaur who likes to scare people with her red color although she’s very kind, really.
