fabric letters

June 21, 2010

An idea for all the leftover fabric scraps… fabric letters using a paper mache technique, but with fabric.

I cut the letter first from cardboard. Then made a little jar mixture of wood glue (Elmer’s is fine) and a bit of water. Using a paintbrush I painted on the glue and painted over the fabric once applied. I’ve left the edges of the fabric rough, so they do have ends showing. Another letter I did had only one material and had tidied edges. I think the mixture of mixed fabric and mixed perfection compliments each other.
I didn’t do too many layers so it dried quickly in the sunshine and becomes a very durable, stiff consistency.
I’m going to create the letters for the baby’s name– spelling out the boy and girl options since we don’t know the gender.
