knitted bonnet

January 26, 2011

This photo doesn’t do this bonnet justice. It’s a beautiful bonnet which I thoroughly enjoyed making for a friend’s baby daughter (5 days older than Bailey).

As it was a Christmas present for Bailey’s friend, she of course helped in choosing the pattern…

… and making it…

The bonnet is knitted in so-soft Rowan Milk Cotton 4-ply and it makes a perfect gift for a newborn baby. The design has been taken from Natural Nursery Knits by Erika Knight and although it’s shown in the book in just one color, I think the two tones work perfectly. (I’ve actually seen the pattern offered for free here)

This was the most challenging knitting project I’ve ever done because of the beautiful trim. I redid it about 4 times and I was working on size 1 needles (American sizing) which was so tricky. The metal needles actually were bending. But the result is gorgeous. Here I think Bailey is sad I didn’t make it for her, instead she has to give it away.
