little girl curtains

August 3, 2011

I surprised myself by finishing this project today! My mom comes tomorrow and I therefore lose my “craft room” to its ultimate purpose of a “guest room”. This is the one project I needed to finish before tidying away my sewing machine for three weeks (although I’m sure my mom won’t mind me having a quick sew in her room) since my mother-in-law will be visiting us for a weekend at the same time mom is here– so the “spare room” (aka future Bailey’s room) will be used as guest overflow. And it desperately needed curtains!

I found this great material on sale at John Lewis a few weeks ago and I’m very pleased with the outcome. I’ve only made curtains once before and it was horribly expensive and not entirely successful (too much to explain). But this time round it was far cheaper than bought curtains, has black-out lining and does the job!

I just hope Bailey will like them one day when she moves into her bigger room (are they a tad baby-ish?) and maybe even begin a love for math!?This project cost me a few machine needles this morning– I was madly sewing and continued to break my needles… luckily this afternoon I was able to buy more and presto… project is done!

As it’s the “spare room” and we don’t have guest overflow for a couple of weeks, it is a complete bomb site (but because of it at least the rest of the house is surprisingly tidy!). Since I’m showing the honest mess in this room… check out the bottom left of the photo– it’s a wooden box painted as a house and when the roof flips up (it’s hinged) there are three cubbies inside for storage. Walking around Whitstable today we spotted a “free– please take me” sign on it! Perfect!! I’m sure one day Bailey will love it.
