little apples quilt

June 12, 2012
A finish to report!  The weather is too wet to hang it outside for photos, so inside it is.  This wonky 9-patch quilt pattern is from Block Party by Alissa Haight Carlton & Kristen Lejnieks.  Little Apples fabric by Aneela Hoey for Moda– it’s what determined the colors for Bailey’s room!  I love the red and turquoise combo.  This is for Bailey’s big girl bed.  She moved into it a few months earlier than I expected, so I’ve been madly sewing trying to add some color to her otherwise plain white bed.
And with the weather so far this “summer”, she’ll need the extra blanket to stay warm!

The 27 blocks are all hand sewn and then sashing and quilting was done by machine.  For the quilting I did straight horizontal lines above each row (stitch in the ditch) and then outlined each inner “square” of the block (in the ditch again).  It washed beautifully and now I’m just waiting for it to dry!

The little girls in the fabric are so sweet, here is one hula-hooping.  I just love the material and think it’s perfect for a little girl’s room.

I used the turquoise Little Apples print for the back.  I have yards and yards left over so I will probably be making more room goodies for her out of this material!

Not sure how this will ever dry in this damp June weather.  I hope it does before Bailey’s bedtime tonight… I can’t wait much longer to see it on her bed!
