scruffily quilt completed!

November 9, 2011

Done, done, done!! I am incredibly pleased with this beauty and will curl up tonight on the couch under it, oozing of pride! Even its underside is delightfully pretty!

This is my hand stitched (everything except part of the binding is hand stitched) quilt that I began on my trip home for Grandma’s memorial weekend. I was really nervous when I threw it into the washing machine (not having pre-washed any of the fabrics) but was relieved that Moda quality means I shouldn’t worry about color bleeding. I used 100% cotton wadding which provides a lot of warmth and gives great texture once washed.

It was important for me to finish it by hand so the quilting has a very homemade look to it (i.e. no perfectly straight lines!). You can see detail here– each block had two outlining squares and a small “x” quilted into it (42 blocks of this!). The quilting took ages but I enjoyed many episodes of Come Dine With Me so I’m not complaining.

It was also my first time creating bias binding– that was a bit tedious at first but I ended up loving the look and will definitely do the same method again.

If you’re interested, the pattern is here: Scruffily Quilt. The fabric is all “Just Wing It”.

Off to lounge under its pretty patterns. Happy, happy, happy.
